47th Annual Patrons Ball - A Center of the West Event
Event Description
This elegant black-tie affair features live music, a silent auction, and exquisite cuisine from Bravo! Catering. Patrons from near and far gather to renew friendships, network with leaders of industry and government, and make new acquaintances. Immersed in Western art, culture, and the history of the West, this event allows patrons to enjoy companionable conversation and kick up their heels!

Supaya Gray Wolfe Workshop: Create Your Own Beaded Buffalo Hide Horse or Old Style Buffalo Doll
Join By Western Hands artisan Supaya Gray Wolfe to create a beaded buffalo hide horse or old style buffalo doll!
Create your own beaded buffalo hide horse or old Style buffalo doll. Participants will assemble, bead and decorate a buffalo hide horse or doll. Material provided will be split buffalo hide, buffalo and horse hair, aged trade cloth, glass and trade beads as well as turquoise. All day class, participants may finish early. Refreshments included.
Supaya, a Native American Beadworker, is instructing this step by step class teaching the methods and techniques to make a horse. Each horse can honor a particular horse close to your heart. Participants are encouraged to bring your own horse hair, and something special to place where the heart is to make it special. Participants that wish to honor a horse are asked to send a picture so Supaya is able to gather leather close to the color of the horse.
Materials to be used: Buffalo hide, Sinew, Horse hair, Glass and Brass Beads, Sweet Grass, Sage, Turquoise, Ghost beads.

Leather Restoration Class With John Blair - By Western Hands
Join By Western Hands artisan John Blair to learn how to restore leather treasures.
Do you have a leather item that needs some TLC? A purse, boots, belts, jackets or anything in between. John will be teaching a lesson on the “How To’s” of restoring these items to their natural beauty. Attendees are allowed to bring up to two (2) items that need to be restored. This class will not cover saddles, exotic leathers or suede so please do not bring those items. Treatment items will be sent home with each participant for future use.

Join Charlie Hunter, a Buffalo Bill Art Show & Sale Artist for Painting on the Porch! This workshop provides intermediate to advanced painters with personalized instruction and fellowship.
Workshop includes breakfast, lunch and instruction. Materials are the responsibility of participant. Workshop times are: Monday and Tuesday 9AM-4PM and Wednesday 9AM-1PM.

Create Your Own Medium Copper Serving Piece with Antler Handle
Attendees of the class have the opportunity to make either a copper Ginkgo spoon with antler handle or a copper Ginkgo Flat server with antler handle. Each attendee will choose ONE to make.
The Copper Gingko spoon with the two pronged antler is 14.3/4 approximately long and 4.5 inches wide. It is 2 3/4 in height.
The Copper Ginkgo Flat server is 14 inches long by 4 3/4 wide and 1 3/4 in height.
All dimensions are approximate and will vary due to its’ natural material. The antler is a pronged antler.
Students will trace a template on a sheet of copper. They will be cutting the copper tracing and filing the edges so it is smooth. Students will learn planishing with a Cross Peen hammer to add texture. This technique is used for both pieces.
For both pieces, they will then drill a hole into the antler and then take the stem and hammer it into the antler. They will prepare to rivet the spoon bowl or flat server onto the antler handle using solid brass rivets.

Waking the Horse with Supaya Gray Wolfe: Create Your Own Beaded Buffalo Hide Horse

Copper Bracelet and Necklace Class with Ben Caldwell
Attendees will be making a copper one-inch copper cuff that expands or contracts to fit any size wrist. The student will trace and cut it out of a copper sheet. They will file the sides so it is smooth. Each person will shape, hammer and finish the bracelet.
The leaf necklace will be traced and cut from a sheet of copper. It will be folded in half and textured the same way as the cuff with, a Cross Peen hammer, unfolded and shaped. The solid copper closure will be attached to a chorded leather necklace and hand formed into a hook and eye clasp. The chord can be cut to the length they want and wrapped with copper wire to secure the clasp to the necklace.
The pieces will not be polished.

Painting on the Porch - A Buffalo Bill Art Show & Sale Event
Join Terry Cooke Hall, a Buffalo Bill Art Show & Sale artist for Painting on the Porch! This two-and-a-half-day educational workshop provides intermediate to advanced painters with personalized instruction and fellowship.
About the instructor: Since the mid-70s, Terry’s passion for art led her to ongoing courses in life drawing, graphic design and illustration, followed by fine art studies in the early 2000s, leading to a career as a professional fine artist in 2009. Since then, she has earned numerous awards while exhibiting in more than 40 national museum shows and major gallery group exhibitions. Her work, recently featured in Art of the West Magazine, has been purchased by both corporate and private collectors across the nation. Residing in Bozeman, Terry’s contemporary style is a result of exploring the colors and essence of the West viewed through the lens of more than 30 years of work in design and illustration.
Workshop includes breakfast, lunch, and instruction. Materials are the responsibility of participant. Workshops times are: Monday and Tuesday 9AM-4PM and Wednesday 9AM-1PM.

Lunch & Lecture - A Buffalo Bill Art Show & Sale Event
Join Byron Price for this year’s Lunch & Lecture Playing Cowboy: Charlie Russell and the Silver Screen as he discusses Charlie Russell and his influence on Western cinema and how western movies influenced his art.
Byron Price currently holds the Charles Marion Russell Memorial Chair, is Director of Charles M. Russell Center for the Study of Art of the American West at the University of Oklahoma and is Director of the University of Oklahoma Press.
Price is the author of more than three dozen journal articles on western American history and art and has written several books including Fine Art of the West (2004); The Chuck Wagon Cook Book (2004); Erwin E. Smith: Cowboy Photographer (1997); and Cowboys of the American West (1996).
Price is also the editor of Charles M. Russell: A Catalogue Raisonné (2007), which won the 2007 Western Heritage Award for the best art book of the year from the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum, the 2008 Caughey-Western History Association Prize for best book of the year in western history, the 2008 High Plains Book Award for nonfiction and the 2009 Joan Patterson Kerr Award from the Western History Association for the best illustrated book on the American West.
