Create Your Own Medium Copper Serving Piece with Antler Handle

  • By Western Hands 1007 12th Street Cody, WY, 82414 United States (map)

Attendees of the class have the opportunity to make either a copper Ginkgo spoon with antler handle or a copper Ginkgo Flat server with antler handle. Each attendee will choose ONE to make.

  • The Copper Gingko spoon with the two pronged antler is 14.3/4 approximately long and 4.5 inches wide. It is 2 3/4 in height.

  • The Copper Ginkgo Flat server is 14 inches long by 4 3/4 wide and 1 3/4 in height.
All dimensions are approximate and will vary due to its’ natural material. The antler is a pronged antler.

Students will trace a template on a sheet of copper. They will be cutting the copper tracing and filing the edges so it is smooth. Students will learn planishing with a Cross Peen hammer to add texture. This technique is used for both pieces.

For both pieces, they will then drill a hole into the antler and then take the stem and hammer it into the antler. They will prepare to rivet the spoon bowl or flat server onto the antler handle using solid brass rivets.

$185, limited to first 20 registrants. Reservations Required. Located at By Western Hands 1007 12th Street.

For more innovative Western design opportunity, Ben Caldwell will also teach a workshop on how to create your own copper bracelet or necklace on Thursday, September 21 from 9:00AM-11:30AM.
