John Potter

John Potter was the winner of best in show at the Buffalo Bill Art Show & Sale for two-dimensional work in 2025. Potter is a highly sought after artist whose work reflects a deep and singular connection – a kinship – with his subjects. After earning degrees in fine art and illustration from Utah State, and spending 20 years as an illustrator, he has spent the last 20 years celebrated for his evocative oil paintings inspired by the wild world, by his indigenous roots, and by the human experience in nature. His paintings invite reflection and connection, blending technical mastery with powerful storytelling. John’s work is held in the permanent collections of several Western museums, and in private collections across the country and around the world.
