Dean Mitchell

Dean Mitchell (American, b. 1957) AWS, NWS
Dean Mitchell is an acclaimed American painter known for his masterful watercolors and poignant portrayals of the American experience. Born in Pittsburgh and raised in Quincy, Florida, he overcame early adversity to pursue a celebrated career in the arts. A graduate of the Columbus College of Art & Design, Mitchell became the youngest artist accepted into the National Watercolor Society at age 23, later joining the American Watercolor Society and earning over 800 awards throughout his four-decade career.
Mitchell’s work, often compared to that of a “modern-day Vermeer,” explores themes of identity, memory, and place with emotional depth and technical precision. His paintings are held in major museum and corporate collections across the United States, reflecting a powerful and nuanced vision of the American landscape—both personal and historical.
