By Western Hands™, a non-profit organization will preserve the legacy of western design by promoting today’s top artisans, educating the craftsmen of the future and preserving the iconic designs for future generations to enjoy.

Skilled craftsmen and artisans who are able to create lasting pieces of beautiful and functional art are becoming ever rarer in today’s modern world. If we do not actively encourage and support them, their legacy will wither and an amazing piece of western history will be forgotten.

Today, we have a unique opportunity to take meaningful action that will provide a future for western design for generations to come.

Meet the Artisans

Master artisans that create functional artworks of wood, carved leather and bone, beaded textiles, antler, silver, and iron (to name just a few) are juried into the BWH Legacy Artisans’ group by an anonymous jury. Only those individuals demonstrating highest quality workmanship with an eye toward the Western tradition are invited to join.

Their work is exhibited in the Legacy Artisans’ Gallery. Many of them are represented in the Western Design Museum & Archive, and serve as artists-in-residence at BWH’s onsite workshop and demonstration space, our Design Center.
