Max was born in Ghent, Belgium and studied fine art at the Buam Show School of Art in London, England and did post graduate work in printmaking at the Slade School of Art at University College, also in London. In 1991 he collaborated with Portuguese artist Bartolomeo Dos Santos in designing the decoration on a new underground station in Lisbon, Portugal. A technique of etching on the lime stone was used for their designs. Two years later they completed a large panel for the Tokyo Nuyombashi underground station using the same technique. In 1997 Max move to Argentina to work on a series of paintings about Argentinian landscapes and rural scenes. In 2003 Max was commissioned by the regiment Household Cavalry of Queen Elizabeth II to paint she and the Duke of Edinburgh leading a parade in Whitehall in London, England. He now lives now in the United States.
