“This work was inspired by one of my many morning walks in this area. I am always amazed at how different each day begins. I was inspired to paint this pastel after experiencing this dawn early light. The day started with poetic feelings of giving hope and a sense of wellbeing.”

“Golden Dusk” was inspired by my recent winter painting outings along the Cherry Creek at dusk and dawn. I was so inspired to see this golden light at the end of a winter day, reflecting its warm golden color on the water. The subtle blue color on the snow at this time of day was such an interesting visual contrast.

Lorenzo Chavez was born and raised in New Mexico. His first inspirations and foundation as an artist were formed by the local landscape and the art history in New Mexico. Lorenzo now lives in Parker, Colorado, and uses this location as a base to travel and paint the American West. He paints in both pastel and oil, participates in several national and international invitational group exhibitions, and has won major awards including from the Pastel Society of America in New York. His work has been exhibited at the Buffalo Bill Center of the West, the Albuquerque Art Museum, the Pasadena Art Museum, the Brinton, and the Gilcrease, just to name a few. He was featured in a successful one-man show at the C.M. Russell Museum and has participated in several C.M. Russell Art Auctions. Articles about Chavez have appeared in Southwest Art, Art of the West, American Artist Magazine, Plein Air Magazine, as well as many other publications. He has taught numerous workshops across the United States and is a signature member of Plein Air Painters of America, Northwest Rendezvous of Art, California Art Club, Plein Air Painters of New Mexico, Plein Air Painters of Colorado, Pastel Society of Spain, and the American Impressionist Society.
