Scenes of everyday life are among Heide Presse’s favorite subjects. While reading the journals of mid-1800’s overland emigrants, she was inspired to open a window into their courageous lives. Her love of history, textiles, and period clothing also play a huge role in the creation of her paintings. Heide has exhibited with the Eiteljorg Museum’s Quest for the West show, National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum’s Small Works-Great Wonders, and National Museum of Wildlife Art Western Visions, and has won eight awards in the National Arts for the Parks. In 2016, she received the Hockaday Museum Hilda Lee Hatlen Purchase Award and the Lucile Van Slyck Display Award. She received the Director’s Choice award at Desert Caballeros Western Museum’s “Cowgirl Up!” Heide currently lives in Tampa, Florida.
